The forests of central Africa are under threat from habitat destruction, poaching, pollution, and climate change. These are further exacerbated by endemic poverty and security threats.
The situation is urgent.

Forest species such as Forest Gorillas, Pangolin, Forest Elephants, and many others, are being sold for parts in global markets for use as medical treatments and trophies.
This is in spite of international laws.

Although, some of the remaining forests are protected within the country, these protections can be tenuous due to the amount of money that can be applied by multi-national resource extraction corporations.
Once these forests are gone, they’re gone for ever.

This region is poor by western standards. As an example, the average 2024 annual income in Cameroon was $1720. And this is lower in the rural regions. In China the price for one NHP (Non-Human Primate) brings 4-12 times that.
With our focus on sustainable ecotourism we work with the local communities neighboring the forests to bring employment and services. This is in order to combat poaching and increase the inherent value of the intact forest in their perceptions

Our focus is to become self-sustaining. With revenues from establishing sustainable eco-tourism infrastructure will be able to fund our community focus, as well, as acting to improve the conservation resilience of the areas around the existing reserves by working to establish habitat corridors between forested lands, employing locals, mitigating poaching, and fostering customary knowledge about the forests.

We’re not CPA’s and your particular situation may be different. But, our review of the IRS’s rulemaking indicates that your donations could be considered tax deductable. But, please consult with your accountants if you have questions.

Most of our team are volunteers. Which means we aren’t compensated for our time. We may be reimbursed for direct expenses that we incur. We do hire staff for specific roles from time-to-time as our finances allow such as, administrative and IT staff

We have team members in the U.S., The Netherlands, Paris, The Republic of Congo, and Cameroon. This may change based on funding and skills required.

Our initial funding approach is direct and/or crowd sourcing. The reasons for this are that traditional grant funding is time consuming and has high overhead due to reporting requirements for the donors. We understand these requirements but do not have the depth of staffing to support this at this time. We’d rather use our staff to get real things done. Also, with the recent USAID changes we expect that traditional grant funding may be limited going forward.
We may go back to traditional grant funding later. But our true focus is be self-sustaining. By this we mean we generate revenue form some of our operations that we can then put right back into our conservation work.
